5/6/98: A/C was on high all night, and the lights never went off, so we didn’t get much sleep on the ferry from Crete! An early arrival at 5:30am in Piraeus, and managed to figure out how to catch the Metro train up to Victoria Station near the George’s and Gerry’s home. We were quite early, but the sun always comes up at the right time. So, we grabbed some fast-food breakfast at Goody’s Burger House (Greece’s version of McDonald’s), and sat in Plateia Victoria for a couple of hours watching pigeons get stalked by stray cats. Once we got to the George’s and Gerry’s, they all went off to work or school, and we took a nap.
5/6/23: When George and Gerry returned from work they made dinner for us, so, we gave them the gift we brought back for them from Crete: hand-painted glasses. We were quite disappointed to find out that the woman who sold them to us stretched the truth when she said that the paint was indelible. As soon as George filled one of the glasses the paint dissolved, ruining the gift! George and Gerry were very gracious, but we were rather embarrassed.
