5/29/98: Had a bumpy ride through the bush with the Home-Based Health Care team today…
NOTE: The main photo above shows us arriving at a village with the Home-Based Health Care Team.
5/29/23: When we visited in 1998, Richard and Dorothy M. headed up an initiative that took Karanda’s mission of health care out to remote villages. The program helped to provide some basic health care, but also health care education, to villages and families that cannot make the journey to Karanda Mission Hospital as often as they need. Pastor K., the chaplain at Karanda, was part of the itinerant team, since he was an indigenous Zimbabwean who helped with translation as well as building trusting relationships in the villages. He and I rode in the bed of the pick-up truck. It turns out that holding on for dear life while being bounced around like the ping-pong balls in a tin pale together is also a surprisingly good way to build a relationship!
