9/12/98: In honor of Ruth’s birthday today, we went on an all-day, whirlwind bus tour through Delhi that was inexpensive and exceptionally good… The India Gate (where we watched snake charmers and performing monkeys)… The Laxminarayan Mandir, an ornately decorated Hindu temple with no surface, edge or corner unadorned… The Qutb Minar (tallest stone tower in India, which billboards tout as “only slightly shorter than Godzilla!)… The Baháʼí Lotus Temple (built to resemble a Lotus flower and needing no internal support columns)… The Lal Qila (Red Fort), built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (who also built the Taj Mahal)… Raj Ghat, a park where Mahatma Gandhi (lawyer, anti-colonial activist, and ethicist), Jawaharlal Neru (India’s first Prime Minister) are memorialized…
NOTE: The photo above shows our tour guide explaining something or other about the architecture of the Lal Qila (Red Fort) in Delhi, India.
