2/5/99: Reading, writing, shopping for boxes, organized some of our slides. Yattah yattah. ¦ Grilled shrimp and kalua pork for dinner. This is gonna be hard to give up…
2/5/24: *During our 1999 stay with Dad & Mom at the end of our round-the-world trip, we did not take many photos. So, I am posting photos and stories from some of our other trips to Maui over the years.
Hana Town, or “Heavenly Hana,” as it is sometimes called, is notable for its charm and the lovely black sand beach of its bay. We have never stayed in any of the local hotels or B&Bs, but we have often spent time at the beach when we visit this part of the island. One of our favorite stops in Hana is the Hawegawa General Store, which is right on the main road as we go to Kipahulu, ’Ohe’o Gulch and the Pipiwai Trail. We always pick up some of Ruth’s favorite Hawai’an snacks, such as crack seed, cuttle-fish, and dried mango.
NOTE: The photo above shows Ruth standing outside the entrance to the Hasegawa General Store in Hana, during our 2023 trip to Maui.
