2/18/99: I went downtown alone today, to the library, but didn’t get near as much done as I wanted to.
2/18/24: *During our 1999 stay with Dad & Mom at the end of our round-the-world trip, we did not take many photos. So, I am posting photos and stories from some of our other trips to Maui over the years.
I’ve posted some photos from the road to Hana, and the usually unaccessible return to the valley along the dry, south facing side of Haleakala. The next few posts will include photos from the road that circles the Pu’u Kukui and the West Maui Mountains. The photos in this post are from hikes we have taken in the Waihee Valley, north of Wailuku. The trail follows a stream-turned-aqueduct, which brings fresh water down from the mountain rainforests, to the over-developed and thirsty towns and communities in the valley that have cropped up in recent decades. It is a fun hike because it requires some boulder hopping to cross parts of the stream, and old cable and plank foot bridges at other parts. We have not been up the trail since 2008, so the bridges may have been replaced by now.
