7/2/98: I took a few pictures of the ENT Team at Bethany Center today while they were on their rounds…
NOTE: The photo above shows an infant patient ready for reconstructive palette surgery, held in the arms of her thankful mother, at AIC Kijabe Mission Hospital.
7/2/23: Poor nutrition related to poverty and lack of education in rural parts of the developing world often results in a high incidence rate of congenital deformity conditions at birth. These include spina bifida, cleft palette and TEV (i.e., “clubfoot”). It was heartbreaking to learn that children with these congenital deformities are sometimes abandoned due to lack of awareness or absence of resources. In the early Church, Christians turned the pagan Roman world upside down by practicing the Biblical ethic of alleviating poverty, caring for the sick and dying, and taking in abandoned infants rather than letting them perish by exposure. That same Christian mission and practice is what AIC Kijabe Mission Hospital carries out today. Ministires like this are still turning the world upside down. It was a humbling privilege to witness the surgical reconstruction initiatives by the ENT Team (ear-nose-throat) as they showed practical compassion to the poor, sick and vulnerable children. They make a big difference for these children and families.
