7/4/98: Celebrated U.S. Independence Day with the Bill & Carol J. at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi today…
7/4/23: Entertainment was by a band from somewhere in Missouri, in just for the show. They did covers from the 40s all the way to the early 90s, and they dressed in period costumes to boot. The weather was overcast and cool, the food was good and the people were friendly. In fact, Ruth and I had a nice chat with the Polish Ambassador to Kenya, who was a special guest of one of the band members.
On the trip to and from Nairobi I got to sit in the back of the truck with Troy and Sellers. At first it seemed like it was gonna be hard just to stay out of their way as they romped around the confined space. Eventually I interested them in playing my geography name game. The rules are: take turns naming places using the last letter of the previous place as the first letter for a new place; only use names of real places with a governing body (town, city, country, not a region or continent, etc.); you are “out” if you repeat a name already stated; you are “out” if you can’t name a place within 5 seconds. The three of us had fun with it…
