9/5/98: Vanessa invited us to join a group of friends from INF to hike up to the mountain village of Dhampus… It was a steep 2,861 ft climb, further in and higher up, through rice terraced hills that took us 3 ½ hours… Along the way we met an old Nepali woman who convinced several in our group to let her try on their sun glasses, and when she found a pair she liked, she hinted pretty strongly that she wanted to keep them… She made quite a sight with her sun-wrinkled face, various tribal facial piercings and colorful clothing, finished with a pair of modern shades too… We all checked into the Dhaulagiri View Hotel, where food was served in shifts because there were 13 of us and only one small propane stove… Stayed up for a bit playing cards and getting to know new friends…
NOTE: The photo above shows some of the rice terraces we passed through on our hike up to Dhampus, Nepal.
