3/30/98: I went back to the office where George and his son Alexi are working. Attempts to get the laptop modem to connect still. Our last night in Athens, so a drive up Lofos Likavitou (Lycabettus Hill) with George and Gerri for a fantastic view of Athens at night, then out to dinner at a lovely little taverna.
3/30/23: Sadly, we didn’t bring our cameras along that evening, so I don’t have any photos. But the views of that part of Athens were spectacular. Like many cities that have survived from antiquity, there are ordinances that keep certain areas free of sky-scrapers. So, in this case, the views from Likavitou really are broad and beautiful, particularly at night, when the city lights look like a bed of sparkling colored gemstones laid out before you. The Parthenon and other buildings on the Acropolis are lit up at night, and almost seem to float in the air above Athens, since it sits on its own rocky bluff in the middle of otherwise flat expanse of the city.
